TITLE: RN First Assistant
DEPARTMENT: Perioperative Services
IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR JOB TITLE: Director of Perioperative Services
Position Summary
Responsible for the delivery of safe, effective, and quality patient-family centered care in the OR and other areas of perioperative services for all patient populations. Functions as a first assistant during surgical incision, excision, repair of pathology, and wound closure throughout the perioperative period on procedures for which privileges have been granted.
Essential Functions
- Collaborates and effectively communicates with surgeons, anesthesia and staff to promote patient safety.
- Analyzes information, develops and implements plan of care, evaluates results and make adjustments as needed.
- Integrates experience and critical thinking skills to ensure safe medication delivery.
- Participates in quality improvement activities through identifying, implementing and monitoring process changes.
- Knowledgeable of surgical anatomy, physiology, specific surgical techniques and anticipates the needs of the surgeon.
- Collaborates with the surgeon to perform surgical techniques during the procedure.
- Fills the role of Circulator and Surgical Tech as needed to fill the needs of the department.
Non-essential Functions
- Assists with restocking OR suites as needed.
- Complete daily and monthly tasks and competencies as assigned.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements
- Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Ohio.
- Completion of an AORN accredited RNFA program.
- Obtains CNOR certification upon completion of AORN accredited program.
- Able to work weekends, holidays and take call time as required.
- American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS
- ACLS
- PALS
