TITLE: Pharmacy Technician

DEPARTMENT: Pharmacy

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR JOB TITLE: Director of Pharmacy

Position Summary

Prepares medications for patients under the direction of a registered pharmacist and performs other technical tasks essential to the function of the department and hospital.

Essential Functions

  • Properly prepare medications for dispensing to patients
  • Accurate refill and maintenance of drug stock locations
  • Reconcile and charge for medications
  • Field phone calls
  • Navigate through the electronic health record
  • Operate departmental equipment (hardware and software)

Non-essential Functions

  • Acquire and inventory control of medications
  • Training and orientation to Pharmacy operation
  • Assist in oversight of medication management
  • Assist in maintaining cleanliness and organization of department
  • Involvement in inter and intra-departmental committees/meetings
  • Serve as a resource for hospital staff and customers
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Position Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Certification through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board

Those who meet the criteria under #1a and #1b may perform the job duties of a Qualified Pharmacy Technician for the first 210 days from date of hire:

1a) Is participating in or has completed a pharmacy technician training program that meets the Ohio State Board of Pharmacy (SBOP) standards and is making substantial progress in preparation to take the pharmacy technician examination and passes that exam within 210 days from date of hire;

1b) has submitted to a criminal records check, for which the results show that he/she has not previously been convicted of or has not pleaded guilty to any felony in this state, or any state.

Those who meet the criteria under #2a and #2b may perform the job duties of a Qualified Pharmacy Technician for the first 210 days from the date of completing a pharmacy technician training program operated by a vocational or joint vocational district approved by the Ohio Department of Education. The age requirement does not apply if these criteria are met:

2a) He/she is making substantial progress in preparation to take the pharmacy technician examination and passes that exam within 210 days of completion of program.

2b) has submitted to a criminal records check, for which the results show that he/she has not previously been convicted of or has not pleaded guilty to any felony in this state, or any state.

Medium Work – Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
