TITLE: Patient Financial Services Representative

DEPARTMENT: Patient Financial Services

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR JOB TITLE: Patient Financial Services Leader

Position Summary:

The Patient Financial Services Representative is responsible for collection of self-pay balances while providing exceptional customer services, and assisting the patient with any and all avenues of financial assistance available to them as well as processing delinquent patient accounts for collection.

Essential Functions:

  • Conducts patient financial interviews to assist with the resolution of the patient’s account, and to ensure compliance with hospital financial resolution policies.
  • Assists with completion and processes free care applications according to department guidelines.
  • Communicates effectively; answers patient inquiries.
  • Arranges and maintains payment plan program.
  • Processes delinquent patient accounts for bad debt and legal action.
  • Documents activity into patient accounting system and verifies for accuracy.

Non-essential Functions:

  • Reviews patient accounting reports and completes when required.
  • Assists with coverage at cashier’s desk when needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements

  • High School graduate or equivalent education.
  • Six months prior computer/clerical experience preferred.
  • Verbal ability to discuss financial matters with patients or their representative preferred.
  • Knowledge of basic patient accounting processes and healthcare terminology preferred.
