IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR JOB TITLE:   Patient Financial Services Leader

Position Summary: 

The Biller’s responsibilities include accurately billing patient accounts, ensuring timely claim submission and reimbursement from various third-party payers, ensuring proper account documentation in the billing and patient accounting system, and pursuing follow-up efforts on aged accounts under the supervision department leader.

Essential Functions:

  • Prepares and submits claims and when necessary, files appeals for denied claims to various insurance companies electronically or by paper, both accurately and timely.
  • Communicates effectively with payers to resolve patient account issues and questions, answers inquires from patients in an understandable manner and keeps department leaders informed of any issues and trends related to the processing of claims.
  • Identifies and resolves credit balances on patient accounts.
  • Documents all activity on patient accounts.
  • Reviews daily reports and completes as required.
  • Follows up on outstanding claims until payment or processing is complete and accurate.
  • Researches and processes Electronic Remittance Advice (ERA) for assigned payers and verifies contractual adjustments.

 

Non-essential Functions:

  • Updates corrected insurance information when required.
  • Assists with coverage at cashier’s desk when needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements

  • High School graduate or equivalent education.
  • Six months prior computer/clerical experience preferred.
  • Six month prior experience in health insurance billing preferred.
  • Knowledge of basic patient accounting processes and healthcare terminology preferred.
