TITLE:  Nurse Intern

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR JOB TITLE:  Nursing Directors

Position Summary The nurse intern is a student nurse who assists in the delivery of patient care under the direction of a registered nurse.  

Essential Functions

• Demonstrates our hospital’s core values and processes.
• Contributes to the nursing assessment and alerts RN to abnormal findings.
• Documents patient care reflecting the patient condition and the care provided.
• Integrates experience and critical thinking skills to ensure safe patient care.
• Completes tasks as assigned by RN.
• Participates in quality improvement activities by identifying, implementing, and monitoring process changes. .

Non-essential Functions

• Performs other duties as assigned

Position Requirements

• Minimum of at least one year of an approved registered nurse education program with one semester of clinical course work.
• Must verify passing grade in clinical course work.
• Must have affiliated college/school complete and verify nurse intern competency checklist.
• Must have a letter of recommendation from a clinical instructor.
• American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS

• Is able to demonstrate a beginning knowledge of nursing practice and theory.
• Must be able to apply theory to clinical setting.
• Demonstrates excellent communication skills.
• Demonstrates self motivation.

Physical Requirements

Medium Work – Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.  Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
