Position Summary
The CFO is a key member of the leadership team who, along with the CEO and Senior Management, establishes goals, strategies, growth plans, and policies. The CFO possesses the leadership and vision to guide the organization and affiliates in strategic planning for and implementation of financial/operational systems to succeed as health care reimbursement models change as a result of legislative, regulatory, or marketplace health care reform. Incorporates and supports the core values and core processes of The Bellevue Hospital.
Essential Functions
Demonstrates and communicates the hospital’s core values and core processes.
Directs the financial planning and accounting practices as well as its relationship with lending institutions and the financial community.
Oversees and directs treasury, budgeting, audit, tax, accounting, purchasing, real estate, and information system activities for the organization.
Appraises the organization’s financial position and issues periodic financial and operating reports.
Analyzes, consolidates, and directs all cost accounting procedures together with other statistical and routine reports.
Oversees all revenue cycle activities including Medicare and Medicaid, and annual cost report preparation.
Participates in the facility’s long-term and short-term financial process
Directs and participates in the development of accounting, admission, credit/collection and internal control policies and systems and addresses related policy/system issues.
Coordinates and controls, with input from the Board of Trustees Finance Committee, the facility’s cash and investment management activities.
Provides advice and guidance as necessary in preparing and analyzing financial reports and executing appropriate responsive actions.
Assists in evaluating the adequacy of the hospital’s insurance coverage and in handling special/sensitive cases or problems and providing advice and guidance as necessary in preparing and analyzing risk management and insurance reports and appropriate executive responsive actions.
Coordinates and controls the facility’s short-term cash activities in accordance with established financial policies and objectives.
Directs the hospital’s banks in executing cash management decisions and works with the appropriate investment managers in coordinating fund transfers and monitoring investment performance.
Recommends appropriate actions and strategies to respond to projected economic trends and/or regulatory changes.
Participates in the analysis of the financial implications of proposed capital projects and expenditures and recommends the execution of appropriate measures to respond to projected economic trends and/or regulatory changes.
Ensures that accurate information is provided on a timely basis and assists, as needed, in facilitating the efficient conduct of external audits, examinations and related financial projects.
Meets on a monthly basis with the Board of Trustees Finance Committee and the Board of Trustees and provides accurate monthly and year-to-date financial reports.
Carries out all responsibilities for directing the fiscal functions of the Corporation and Affiliates in accordance with accepted accounting principles issued by the Financial Accounting Standards Board, International Accounting Standards Board, other Regulatory Agencies, State Licensure, banking and advisory organizations in accordance with financial management techniques and practices appropriate within the health care industry for hospitals and clinics.
Position Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business
7 plus years progressive experience in hospital Finance as hospital CFO or equivalent
Master’s degree in Finance or Business preferred
CPA preferred
Experience with physician practices and outpatient clinics
