TITLE: Dietetic Technician Registered

DEPARTMENT: Rehabilitation Services

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR JOB TITLE: Director of Rehabilitation Services

Position Summary

Works under the supervision of the Registered Dietitian; plans and coordinates nutritional activities. With guidance from the Registered Dietitian teaches patients and their families about sound nutritional principles when selecting and preparing food. Maintains accurate records.

Essential Functions

  • Assists with the education of patients and outpatients on diet modifications as ordered by a physician. Assists with the education of patients/staff on drug nutrient interactions.
  • Performs various duties and documentation at the direction of the Registered Dietitian. Participates in garden activities, community events and educational presentations.
  • Maintains compliances and documentation for The Joint Commission, federal, state and local regulatory laws, standards and protocols.

Non-essential Functions

  • Actively participates in process improvement, hospital committees/projects and establish personal goals that align with the departmental goals.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited college with an Associate degree in Dietetics or Nutrition.
  • Dietetic Technician Registered status required.
  • Previous experience in food service desirable.
  • Attends professional affiliations as appropriate and participate in educational conferences to update and maintain professional jobs skills.

  • Uses independent discretion/decision making.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize duties and work within time frames.

Physical Requirements

Light Work – Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly (Constantly: activity or condition exists 2/3 or more of the time) to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Sedentary Work. Even though the weight lifted may be only a negligible amount, a job should be rated Light Work: (1) when it requires walking or standing to a significant degree; or (2) when it requires sitting most of the time but entails pushing and/or pulling of arm or leg controls; and/or (3) when the job requires working at a production rate pace entailing the constant pushing and/or pulling of materials even though the weight of those materials is negligible.
